The Rosetta Project

According to the Smithsonian magazine website, DURING THE CIVIL WAR "it is estimated that somewhere around 400 women disguised themselves as men and went to war."
Social inequality, identity, respect, duty, adventure, sense of self, gender dysmorphia, patriotism, survival, and love are some of the themes explored by the minds and hearts of these brave folks. The fascinating lives of some of these untold heroes are brought to life in this story of freedom, gender, and identity.
The Rosetta Project is a new folk-rock musical that centers around the true story of Sarah Rosetta Wakeman, a PERSON ASSIGNED FEMALE AT BIRTH who presented as a man and fought in the Union Army during the Civil War. Rosetta's adventures are forever captured in a series of letters written to their family chronicling their daily life as Private Lyons Wakeman in the 153rd New York Infantry.
